We had a small but engaged group of neighbors gather for our community annual meeting.
Thank you to our host, View Ridge Elementary PTA and librarian, Amy Young, for the use of your space.
The VRCC is looking for our neighbors input!
Please reach out to your council and let us know what you want your VRCC to look like in 2024 and what community projects, initiatives and concerns you want addressed.

    b. Topics – Affordable Housing, Community Safety, Identification Cards, Mental Health Assistance to our Police at actions.
    c. Thank you for your time and efforts for our community Rep. Farivar. – Contact info in Agenda, attached.
2. VRCC – History of Initiatives and Actions

    b. Party in the Park 2023 (PiP) – Huge Success – How we budget for this great community connection event.
    c. Neighborhood Crime Prevention Mtg with HHCC – May 3rd, 2023
3. Mission and Goals for VRCC – 2024 and beyond
a . Increase communication to our neighborhood – Current email list is a fraction of our 1800 households in VR.
    b. New – The NE Seattle Living magazine is giving the VRCC & other local CC a monthly column in their publication to communicate           with our neighbors!
        i. Need someone(s) to help write this column each month in 2024.
ii. We had one neighbor step up to say he would help with this column and be on our board!! We could use 1-2 more board
members to help with this project in 2024.
3. Develop a Mission Statement and Goals of what our community wants the VRCC to accomplish for the neighborhood.
4. Election of Officers –
    a. We did not elect officers at this meeting.
    b. Instead, we are kicking off a membership drive to attract more neighbors to join the VRCC as board members.
    c. Non-elected positions – Neighbors that can attend VRCC mtgs, help with special projects, i.e. Magazine Column, PiP, Host
Community Mtgs, Develop Mission Stmt, Budgeting & how to raise funds for community projects, etc.
    d. We will communicate with our neighbors over the next few months and then elect officers in early 2024.
5. Listening to our neighbors – round robin discussion with meeting attendees, asking what they feel are the most important issues in
the neighborhood that the VRCC can address.
    a. Bus Service in View Ridge – Pay attention and advocate for continued full bus service in our neighborhood.
    b. Street Pedestrian Safety – Slowing down traffic on NE 70th Street as well as in front of VRE on 50th Ave NE.
    c. Public Safety – Neighbor shared that their child was attacked in View Ridge and the police response was less than expected.
    d. More connection with View Ridge Elementary PTA. Concerns about declining enrollment and how this impacts the school,
         programs and our neighborhood.
    e. Police response time and availability to our neighborhood. SPD is so far behind in hiring and this is causing lack of police response
        across the city.
    f. Budget concerns for Seattle Public Schools. What is being done to shore up the declining enrollment that’s causing a budget crisis at
SPS. *This question was to Rep. Farivar.
