From our neighbors on the Wedgwood CC.
Greetings. My name is Nancy Wilder and I am a member of the Wedgwood Community Council.
The Wedgwood Community Council , with the Peace and Justice group from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Chuch and Home Street Bank are sponsoring a informational and work night to eliminate the racial restrictive language of properties I the North East Seattle.
Many of the neighborhoods, Wedgwood, Mathews Beach, View Ridge, and Sandpoint Country Club areas had racial restrictive language in the legal deed prohibiting sale to anyone but white Caucasian families. Many of these still remain on properties in our neighborhoods.
The University of Washington staff has mapped many of properties. And this information is available on line.
The University of Washington Civil Rights Department will be giving background history about development these neighborhoods. And instruction how to proceed. Home Street Bank will be present to provide Notary if homeowners are ready to do the paperwork. There is no charge for the notary or submission of documents to the county.
We would like to welcome all of the communities to this meeting. If you could distribute the attached PR to your members and communities anyway , welcoming them to attend and work towards racial justice in our community.
Thank you
Nancy Wilder
