Hello neighbors,
Recap of April 5th, 2025 – Safety Meeting:
What’s Been Happening –
We had nearly 200 people come out April 5th to show their interest and concern about the rise of violent crime in our community.
This was a neighbor to neighbor meeting with the goal of educating each other on what’s been happening in our area over the last year.
And what we, residents of this community, can do to have an impact on ending the escalation of violent criminal activity.
The VRCC, View Ridge Community Council, Crime Committee, organized this meeting.
The VRCC is a group of volunteer residents that live in the community. Any resident of View Ridge can join the VRCC.
Our goal was to let neighbors know what’s happening, what the VRCC has been advocating for with the city and propose what we can do as residents to help.
What is going to happen:
The VRCC has been advocating for safety in our community with city officials including – the mayor’s office, city council, including our D4 CM Rivera, parks department, stake holders in Magnuson Park & the police department. As well as our neighboring NE Seattle neighbors.
The VRCC Crime Committee met with the new Chief of Police, Chief Barnes & the captain of the North Precinct, Captain Davisson on 3/31/25.
In this meeting, Chief Barnes & Captain Davisson agreed to our request for more police patrols in our area – the neighborhoods in and around Magnuson Park.
The city defines this area around the park as the Sandpoint area, for a map of this area, see the first slide of our April 5th presentation, below.
The North Precinct will begin ‘emphasis patrols’ of police officers in and around Magnuson Park three nights a week – Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 8p – Midnight.
They have reached agreement with the Parks Department that this will begin on May 23rd until September 2nd, 2025.
This will be a much needed interruption in the violent criminal activity in our community.
Thank you to Chief Barnes, Captain Davisson and all the city leaders, including our D4 CM Rivera that are making this emphasis patrol happen.
